'the day I can't do my job drunk is the day I turn in my badge and gun'
A couple of months ago my supervisor said to me he wants to upgrade me to Senior RI Specialist in March. The benefits are excellent, and there's more responsibilities of course (like, I'd have to train people, oh my god) and in general it is a sweetheart deal. The was this part of me that didn't quite feel up to the challenge; more specifically, did not feel as though I were ready. That was until I started sharing my midnight shift with this one girl. She IMs me at least five times a night asking for help, checking with me about current policies, asks for help with clients. I don't mind helping her, but I always feel a little frustrated and think, 'Why don't you know this stuff?', because: She's a Senior Specialist. Perhaps I am ready for that extra responsibility after all. At least then I'll be making a buck more an hour to answer really obvious questions. *griiiin* It is now midnight, and although it's been fucking hectic, I think things will slow down enough to allow me to watch... Let's see... HAMLET. Yessss. Funny story: stereowire and I were talking about Sherlock Holmes (the books, not the movie) and she tells me this: "Holmes tells Watson, 'Oh, I make a terrible roommate; I keep weird hours, I play the violin in the middle of the night', etc." --and about five minutes later, I stick my head back in her room and say, "Dude. When I asked you to move in with me, I believe your exact words were, 'Oh, no, I'd make a terrible roommate; I keep weird hours and sometimes I play the piano at 2 in the morning for no reason'. I'm on to you." I'd like to state for the record that she has never played the piano at 2 in the morning. I feel somehow cheated by this. Current Music: Sherlock Holmes - Panic, sheer bloody panic |

Weirdest thing I have ever, ever said to a caller: "It's like, it's this little thing-- you suck on it. With your mouth." Yes, self, that is how you describe a lozenge. *eyeroll* Something you suck on with your mouth.HOT.Oh my god why is it already midnight? There's so much I want to do tonight! :( I have fic to read! I have fic to write! I even have real books to read! ( stereowire loaned me A Study in Scarlet!) But I also really, really want to watch How To Be A Serial Killer. I rearranged all my bedroom furniture today. I actually have space to roll my computer chair around. *glee* I'm going to get busy doing nothing, but here's one last parting query: Dudes, I have to fess up: I have not been keeping up with Doctor Who/Torchwood this year. I didn't watch Children of Earth, and the last episode I saw of DW was The Stolen Earth. Is it worth it to catch up? :( I need to know! update: PFFFFFFFFT. I have complete faith in the continued absurdity of whatever’s going on.
I'm going to start this post with a report that, earlier today, I had another caller ask, "What does 'straight' mean?" Weirdly, she was so polite about it that I didn't cop an attitude when I replied, "It means that you, being a woman, would be attracted to men." It was kind of adorable when she was like, "HELL YES. Sign me up for that one." (Note: She was almost 60.) --- I'm placing a break there because I wrote that bit before I started drinking. And I've beeen drinking for a good couple of hours now. Also I seem to be bringing in the new year with swordage and the New Years Eve Party Post on ![[info]](http://l-stat.livejournal.com/img/community.gif) ontd_startrek which makes me way happier than it should. Also? I've been listening to this song, "Right Round", by FloRida for like, two hours on repeat. I love it so much I want to dance around for another two hours. I don't actually know what to say. Nat told me I needed to make a post. Probably because I'm getting steadily drunker and she wants to make fun of me. 2009 was pretty fucked up for a lot of people I knew. I was mostly lucky. It started out with my first-ever trip to the emergency room (and I'll be paying it off for the next five years!) but aside from that life could be worse. Hmmm. I get out of work in five minutes. I'm at that weird stage of sleep-dep where I could easily stay awake and just as easily fall asleep. Unfortunately I cannot decide which I should go with. *thinking hard* If I choose to sleep, I have to move Stuka and the huge pile of crap he's sleeping on. Earlier tonight, in the process of straightening my room, I deposited 22 books (mostly gardening and serial killers) and a space heater on my bed. I don't know why that seemed like a bright idea. If I stay awake, I have to write. With the holidays and my borked schedule, I haven't been able to touch anything this week. That's just shameful. I could just sit here and continue listening to Shiny Toy Guns, though. I like this plan, it doesn't require much thinking. Despite my best judgment, I am finding myself increasingly fond of the new schedule. I would prefer to tweak it slightly before I agree to let it be permanent, but...yeah, I don't think I'd mind. It is time for sleeping, methinks. With luck I'll be up around 11~ metropolis

3000 miles isn't far enough
I joined Facebook yesterday. I don't know why. It's more interesting than Twitter for keeping up with friends who don't use LJ much, I guess? I only bring this up because today, my cousin Ashley found me on FB and keeps sending me Friend Requests that I keep ignoring. Should I feel bad about this? So far I don't, because I desperately need to control the amount of access my family has to my life. Plus, Ashley just annoys me in general. I'm not close with any members of my family, I moved to Seattle in the attempt to stay far far from their sphere of influence and it is working out beautifully. Christmas Eve
Well a big Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays to my flist for the next couple of days! I'm still plugging away at the Fated Redo but It's nearly done. I'll hopefully post it tomorrow or Saturday. Then I'm going to start on the Ninth Night added chapter and possibly a kakasaku challenge ficlet for the comm. Things I want for Christmas this year: 1. Everyone in my family to be healthy and happy 2. The Canadian Seal Hunt to be abolished 3. 10 pounds to suddenly melt off 4.
